LH-006 - 6 HOS Core Orientation

LH-1002 - General Infection Control
Discusses the importance of infection control for all healthcare employees and the correct precautions to take for protection. The focus is on handwashing as the most important behavior for all employees. Reassurance is provided to new employees that the employer is proactive in protecting employees.

LH-1003 - Electrical Safety
Identifies electrical hazards (current leakage, improper grounding, over-loaded outlets, water, electricity, equipment malfunction and oxygen). Reviews ways to prevent and to intervene with electrical fires and electric shock. Reviews R.A.C.E. Stresses the role of all employees in maintaining safety.

LH-1004 - Fire Safety 2
Reviews possible causes for fire emergencies and explains the meaning and actions of the acronym PASS. Describes the employee role when discovering a fire.

LH-1005 - Customer Service for Healthcare Employees
Emphasizes that the “customer” is anyone an employee comes in contact with in the course of the workday: visitors, vendors, patients and other employees. The module reviews what customers are looking for and what the employees need to do to insure that customers will come back. It presents a method for handling customer complaints.

LH-1006 - Chemical Safety
Defines hazardous chemical and describes the use of Material Safety Data Sheets. Explains the employee and employer roles in relation to chemical safety.

LH-1007 - Patient's Bill of Rights
Gives an short history of the American Hospital Association’s Patient Bill of Rights and identifies employee behaviors that support the bill with examples for each Right. Explains the responsibilities of both the healthcare facility and the patient.

LH-1008 - Prevention of Workplace Violence
Describes behaviors in the workplace that could result in potential violent situations and presents methods to reduce the possibility of actual incidents. Follow-up measures are included.

LH-1009 - Confidentiality in Healthcare
Explains the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality and identifies possible causes of breaches. Ways to maintain confidentiality are presented along with consequences for the employer, as well as the facility. Topics include: email, fax, cellular phones, copying and general disclosure of information.

LH-1010 - Latex Allergies: An Overview
Defines latex allergy and related symptoms. Lists items in home and work environment which contain latex. Reviews ways employees can protect against the allergy and what to do if it is suspected.

LH-1011 - Corporate Compliance
Presents an over-view of a Corporate Compliance Program. Gives examples of illegal and unethical conduct and the importance of reporting to a designated compliance officer and how to respond appropriately when approached for an investigation interview.

LH-1012 - Sexual Harassment
Defines sexual harassment and identifies inappropriate behavior. Discusses ways to prevent sexual harassment and how to handle the situation should it occur.

LH-1013 - Sprains and Strains
Defines body mechanics and emphasizes proper lifting techniques, stretching and back strengthening exercises. Describes when medical attention is needed.

LH-1014 - Team Concept for Healthcare Employees
Defines "team" and presents the characteristics and benefits of teamwork along with the stages of team progress. Discusses the factors that contribute to a successful team and poses questions to the employee for assessing self and work team situations. Provides pointers for contributing to success in the workplace.

LH-2001 - Standard Precautions I
Identifies the components of standard precautions and reviews when handwashing must be done. Describes the use of protective equipment and other protective measures for staff and patients.

LH-2002 - Standard Precautions II
Describes the three types of isolation precautions and the use of related personal barrier precautions. It identifies how to transport isolation patients and discusses the concept of “cohorting” of patients.

LH-2003 - TB Precautions
Discusses risk factors for TB and differentiates between TB infection and TB disease. Methods of treatment and prevention are included.

LH-2004 - Pain: The Basics
Defines pain and how to assess it. Discusses some misconceptions about pain and describes the harmful consequences of pain. Presents ways to manage pain without medication and the useful drug classifications, if it is needed. Module is appropriate for all clinical caregivers.

LH-2005 - Understanding Advance Directives
Describes two types of advance directives. Discusses the role of the caregiver.

LH-2006 - Radiation Safety
Defines and discusses sources of radiation. Describes precautions for employees to take around portable X-ray machines, isotopes, radio-pharmaceuticals and implants. Reviews the difference between, x-ray, scan and MRI.

LH-2007 - Use of Restraints
Reviews the definition of a restraint and situations in which restraints may be used. Emphasizes alternative methods to use before applying a restraint. Includes monitoring requirements for the different types and uses of restraints.

LH-2008 - Age Specific Growth and Development: Birth through School Age
Describes the expected behavior and physical changes that occur as an individual matures form birth through school age. Responses to health and illness during this time frame are presented. Suggestions for care or service to this age group are included. This module is appropriate for all employees and is not specific for any one job or category of healthcare provider.

LH-2009 - Age Specific Growth and Development: Adolescence through Old Adult
Describes the expected behavior and physical changes that occur as an individual matures form adolescence through older adult years. Responses to health and illness during this time frame are presented. Suggestions for care or service to this age group are included. LH-2010 - Abuse and Neglect: The Healthcare Employee's Role
Discusses the signs and behavioral indicators of abuse and neglect in all age groups. Also covers identifying behavioral indicators of suspected abuse or neglect in all age groups and explains the healthcare employee's responsibilities in such cases.

LH-2020 - HIPAA: Privacy Overview
Introduces the basic concept of HIPAA; definition, basic rules of confidentiality and consequences of violations. Examples are used to demonstrate the impact of the legislation on all healthcare employees. The focus is on the Privacy rulings and it supports the concepts presented in modules on Confidentiality, Patient Rights and Corporate Compliance.

LH-3001 - Medication Errors: Prevention is the Key
Stresses the importance of the nurse’s role in administering medications with emphasis on the knowledge of the drugs. Highlights actions which commonly lead to medication errors and identifies the importance of reporting errors.

LH-3002 - Pain Management: Advanced
Target audience: RNs. Describes acute and chronic pain and the basic physiology. Identifies the harmful effects of pain. Stresses pain assessment techniques and discusses the 3 groups of medications useful in controlling pain.

LH-3100 - Cultural Diversity
Defines culture and explains the new term "cultural competence." Examples of cultural differences are presented. The importance of awareness and appropriate intervention with patients and families is stressed along with the impact of this practice on the quality of care. Target audience: professionals, but may be assigned to all clinical employees.

LH-3101 - Patient Safety
This module presents the background leading to required training on patient safety. National Safety Goals are presented and discussed. Current interventions and programs used by many healthcare facilities are identified. A self assessment directs the employee to consider his/her actions regarding this topic.

LH-3102 - Basic Feeding: Serving and Assisting with Meals (English only)
This module will review preparations for mealtime, the process of eating and digestion, factors that affect eating, and techniques for feeding a dependent patient.

LH-3103 - Advanced Feeding:Adaptive Eating Equipment-Supplemental Nutrition-Enteral Feedings (English only)
This module will review types of adaptive feeding devices, supplemental nutrition, delivery methods and administration of enteral feedings, the care associated with nasogastric and PEG tubes, and complications that can occur.

LH-8805 - Alzheimer 1: Overview
Defines dementia and describes the brain changes and related loss of functions. Presents 4 ways to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease. Discusses the stages of the disease and the changes that occur with each.

LH-8808 - Alzheimer 2: Communication
Discusses communication problems that are experienced by individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. Differentiates between verbal and non-verbal communication and strategies for successful communication. Explains the difference between reality orientation and validation.

LH-8809 - Alzheimer 3: ADLs
Explains the challenges of promoting activities of daily living (ADL) for Alzheimer patients and presents the cognitive and physical changes that complicate the process. Describes techniques and interventions for specific ADLs.

LH-8810 - Alzheimer 4: Behavior
Describes common behavior problems in Alzheimer’s disease. Relates the basic principles for responses to specific behaviors and presents interventions for dealing with the challenges of behavior associated with the disease.

LH-8811 - Alzheimer 5: Caregiver Experience
Presents the stages of grief experienced by Alzheimer's family caregivers. Discusses ways to assist families, as well as self. Includes stress reduction approaches.

LH-8812 - Alzheimer 6: Activities
Identifies ways to assess an Alzheimer’s individual’s ability to participate in activities and adapts or modifies activities to meet the needs and preferences of an individual. Explores methods to rediscover or “give back” old memories

LH-8813 - Flu Prevention
Discusses the symptoms of the flu and importance of vaccination for everyone, especially for healthcare workers. Provides specific flu prevention procedures in both acute and long term care facilities.

LH-8814 - Urinary Tract Infections
Defines the term urinary tract infection and lists factors/conditions that increase the risk for infection. Describes actions needed to prevent urinary tract infections. Identifies observations/symptoms to monitor and report.

LH-8815 - Fall Prevention
Describes the prevalence of falls and identifies factors that place patients/residents at-risk for falling. Presents interventions to help reduce falls and discusses post-fall assessment as well as intervention.

Discusses causes and risk factors for pressure ulcers. Describes specific interventions for prevention. Includes graphics.
